Ancient Dongba painting is the most unique Naxi art heritage. When Naxi people hold ceremony, they may draw a variety of Buddhist gods, figures, animals, plants, and image of demons, worship and sacrifice. These various paintings serving religious activities are collectively known as the Dongba paintings, which have five art characteristics as hieroglyphs classics, namely the form of palm leaf manuscript, graceful lines, beautiful colors, dynamic performance, and characteristic abstract.
Dongba paintings are one important part of the Dongba culture, which have several categories including wooden sign paintings, cards paintings, yardage scroll painting, and scriptures paintings. Their contents mainly express various gods and ghosts believed by ancient Naxi and the ideal world, which also reflect a variety of secular life in ancient Naxi society.

Generally, Road Map of God is 14 meters long and about twenty-six centimeter wide, which consist of four parts, including hell, the human world, the natural kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of heaven. Its bright and colorful pictures and vivid and distinct character shape are treasures of Dongba painting, which have not only Tibetan art of painting style, but also the Naxi traditional style and features.
Road Map of God is mainly used in ceremony of salvation of deceased souls during the funeral, and describes the specific scenes of the various stages of the hell, earth, nature, paradise, which has a higher cultural and artistic research value.
